1952 World Table Tennis Championships

The 19th World Table Tennis Championship took place from 1 to 10 February 1952 in Bombay ( India) - and for the second time after 1939 outside of Europe. Venue was a football stadium where a marquee had been erected.

General

During the Games there was a temperature of about 35 degrees. This heat made especially for Europeans to create.

Ferenc Sido - later a successful coach of the Hungarian national team that should win the 1979 world title in Pyongyang, the Hungarians leads here as a player to win the title. Final opponent was the British men's team, despite their two exceptional players Richard Bergmann and Johnny Leach had to settle for the second place.

For the first time Japanese player won titles at the World Table Tennis Championship. Hiroji Satō, the number five Japanese ranking was world champion in men's singles and the Japanese women's team beat the favored Romanians to record world champion Angelica Adelstein - Rozeanu

From Germany took part for reasons of cost no women's team, but a men's team that finished a 9th place with the later DTTB President Dieter Mauritz. Also Switzerland, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia stayed away from the World Cup, which is why the previously by lottery group division of the teams has changed. Austria went to a women's team.

Men's team competition

Prior to an elimination tournament at the six championship courses took place in 1951 in Wiesbaden.

Against India, which has been trained before the World Cup of Barna and Ehrlich, the team won by 1:4 residue nor the compensation, but lost the last game and so the match with 4:5. It was followed by a 0-5 defeat against England and a 5-0 win over Cambodia. In the match against Japan the team with 0:5 was without opportunity, as well as the 1:5 against France. Against Pakistan and Portugal were each won 5-2.

Men's Singles

Only Heinz Raack managed a victory. After a bye in the second round he beat Lim Tam Var ( Cambodia). He then lost 0-3 to Fu Chi Fong ( Hong Kong). Also by bye came Heinz Schneider and Rudi Piffl in round 2 where they were subject Dagoberto Midosi (Brazil ) and Kalman Szepesi (Hungary). Already in the first round eliminated Kurt Braun ( around May Van Hoa, Vietnam ), Walter Than ( against Suh Sui Cho, Hong Kong ) and Dieter Mauritz ( against Ehrlich, France) from.

Men's doubles

The double cutter / Piffl came to the quarterfinals, where it lost to eventual runners- Miner / Leach. Previously were Joao F. Antas / Mohd Yasin (Portugal / Afghanistan), May Van Hoa / Tran Van Lieu (Vietnam ) and Karl -Heinz Eckardt / Gonzalez ( Germany / Chile) thrown out of the race.

Raack / Than lost to Wong Tong Goon / Loh Kum Soon ( Singapore). Mauritz / Brown eliminated in the second round against József Kóczián / Ferenc Sido.

Mixed

Schneider / Mary Stafford (Australia) subject József Kóczián / Gizella Farkas (Hungary) and Brown / Gertrude Wutzl ( Austria ) the Hungarian-Romanian pairing Ferenc Sido / Angelica Adelstein - Rozeanu.

ITTF Congress

  • The DTTB President Karl -Heinz Eckardt is elected to the ITTF Board.
