1953 World Table Tennis Championships

The 20th World Table Tennis Championship was held to 29 March 1953 in Bucharest ( Romania) on 20.

Overview

For the first time China takes part in a World Cup, but do not occupy a prominent place. The English team to Mr. Richard Bergmann and Johnny Leach is world champion in front of the Hungarian Ferenc Sido, but with three titles in the men's singles, men's doubles and mixed harmless stayed and became the most successful player in this World Cup. ( Sido later coach of Hungary and wins with the men's team in 1979 world championship title. )

The pan- German double Freundorfer / Schneider was eliminated by the Englishman Brian Kennedy / Aubrey Simons.

  • First stamps were issued with table tennis motives during a TT World Cup. Romania put 2 chips with a value of 55 bani on with a circulation of two million records.
