Robert Thum

Robert Thum ( born September 25, 1908 in Vienna, † September 1980) was an Austrian table tennis national team. He was 1928 World Champion in doubles.

Career

In the 1920s, Robert Thum was a member of the Vienna Athletics Sports Club ( WAC). From 1928 to 1951 he took part in six times World Championships. In the 1928 World Cup, he became world champion in doubles with Alfred darling from the English Charles Bull / Fred Perry. In 1930 she was runner-up, when they lost the final against the Hungarian dual Victor Barna / Miklos Szabados. Furthermore Thum reached the final of the Austrian men's team in 1928. Also in 1929 he won a silver medal in the team competition, 1932 bronze. In 1928, he was out in the ITTF world rankings at number 10.

After the Second World War Robert Thum contributed greatly to the rebuilding of the structures of the Austrian table tennis.

Thum was married to Eugenie Prager ( * 1910 in Vienna, † 1999). He lived at least until 1947 in Vienna. In September 1980, he died and was buried in the cemetery Dobling.
