Ermengarde of Anjou, Duchess of Burgundy

Ermengarde of Anjou called Blanche (* uncertain: in 1018, † March 18, 1076 in Fleurey -sur -Ouche ), was the daughter of Count Fulk III. the Black of Anjou ( Fulk Nerra ) and Hildegard.

She married in 1035 to his first marriage, Count Gottfried II of Gâtinais ( Geoffrey Ferréol, † April 30, 1043 /45, home Château -Landon ); from this marriage produced:

  • Gottfried III. the Bearded ( Geoffroy le Barbu ) ( † 1096/97 ), Count of Anjou
  • Fulk IV of the Brawler ( Fulk le Rechin ) ( † 1109 ), Count of Anjou
  • Hildegard, ⚭ 1050 Josselin I., Lord of Courtenay ( Courtenay House )

When her mother in 1046 embarked on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, Ermengarde was already a widow. She married in second marriage to 1048 Duke Robert I of Burgundy (later called the Old, * 1011, † March 21, 1076, Mature House of Burgundy ); from this marriage she had a daughter:

  • Hildegard ( probably * 1050, † after 1104, probably 1120); ⚭ 1068/69 William VI. / VIII. († September 25, 1086 ), Count of Poitou, Duke of Aquitaine ( Ramnulfiden )

Through the childless death of her brother Gottfried II, Count of Vendôme and Anjou, in 1060, she inherited the county of Anjou for their sons, while the descendants of her sister Adela received the county Vendôme. On March 18, 1076, she was with her husband, Robert Duke of Burgundy murdered in the church of Saint- Fleurey -sur -Ouche. Both were buried in the abbey of Saint -Seine.
