Ernest Eastman

Theophilus Ernest Eastman ( born March 27, 1927 in Monrovia, † February 28, 2011 ) was a Liberian politician, he was Foreign Minister from 1983 to 1986 in the Doe government.

Life

Born in Monrovia Liberians Theophilus Ernest Eastman is a descendant of a group of immigrants from the Caribbean, which relocated in 1865 from Barbados to Sierra Leone and Liberia. Parents Eastman lived in poverty on the outskirts of Monrovia near the Benson Street, his mother worked temporarily in the home of then-President Charles DB King. He spent his childhood and youth in the care of the Methodist Church in the Ashmun Street and fell through his learning to. He then studied at the College of West Africa ( CWA), where he earned a university entrance qualification and as a valedictorian scholarship. After a stay at Oberlin College, he attended belonging to the Ivy League Columbia University, for financial reasons, he had to go to the bachelor's degree abort the study and returned at the turn of 1956/57, back to Liberia.

In the 1960s Eastman stayed as Liberian Ambassador to the African countries of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda as well as in Japan. The biggest challenge of his diplomatic career Eastman described the time as Foreign Minister (1983-1986) for the internationally outlawed K. Liberian President Samuel Doe. Until his dismissal by the National Patriotic Front of Liberia ( NPFL ) Eastman was also Chairman of the Bong Mining Company.
