Ernst David Bergmann

Ernst David Bergmann (Hebrew ארנסט דוד ברגמן; born September 17, 1903 in Karlsruhe, † April 6, 1975 in Haifa) was an Israeli chemist and researcher for nuclear weapons.

Life

Ernst David Bergmann was the son of Rabbi Judah Zionist set Bergmann ( 1874-1955 ). He studied at the University of Berlin, where he received his doctorate in 1927 under Wilhelm Schlenk. With it, he published in 1932 a Comprehensive textbook of organic chemistry.

After the seizure of power in 1933, he emigrated to London in 1934 and continues to Palestine. He later played with the Israeli nuclear program with David Ben- Gurion and Shimon Peres an important role. Bergmann taught and researched among others at the Weizmann Institute, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Technion. He was awarded the Israel Prize in 1968.

His younger brothers Alfred, Joseph and Theodor Bergmann.
