Ernst Enno

Ernst Enno (. * 27 Maijul / June 8 1875greg in Köödsa, then Rannu parish, Tartu County / Estonia, . † March 7, 1934 in Haapsalu ) was an Estonian poet and children's book author.

Life

Ernst Enno was born the son of the host and farmer prits Enno. He spent his childhood on the farm Soosaare at Rõngu. At the age of eight, he attended the parish school of Lapetukme and then the prestigious Hugo Treffner high school as well as at the secondary school ( Reaalkool ) in Tartu. Since Enno no recording took place at the University of Tartu, he studied from 1896 to 1904 Riga Polytechnic (now Riga Technical University ) trade theory.

During his time in Riga, he worked as a journalist. After studying Enno was briefly Counsel of the credit union in Valga and at a trading company in Pärnu. 1902 to 1904 he was editor of the newspaper Postimees in Tartu and from 1923 to 1925 editor of the Estonian children's magazine Lastebasse Rõõm as well as in other sheets. In addition, he was employed from 1920 to 1934 as a school adviser in Lääne.

1909 married the artist Olga Elfriede Saul († 1974 in exile in England ).

Lyrical work

The work of Ernst Enno is characterized by meditative Buddhism and Western mysticism. Enno was nigh strongly committed to the symbolism. The childhood on land, the stories of the devout mother Ann Enno and the blind grandmother had a formative influence on his literary work. The home, the way and the longing are recurring elements in his poetry.
