Ernst Hofmann

Ernst Hofmann ( born December 7, 1890 in Breslau, † April 27, 1945 in Potsdam ) was a German actor.

Life and work

Hofmann studied in 1910/11 art history, German and Modern Languages ​​at the University of Berlin. At the same time he took acting lessons at drama school of the German theater. Hofmann gave his debut in 1911 and performed at the Little Theatre, the intimate theater and the Little Theatre. When Moritz Stiefel in the play Spring Awakening, he celebrated his first major success.

Hofmann was then but mainly film actor. 1913 Max Reinhardt helped him to his first film role. He served two years in the First World War as a reserve officer in the field artillery. Then he stood in front of the camera and enjoyed several years of considerable popularity as a favorite wife. Henny Porten, Asta Nielsen and Pola Negri among his partners.
