Erwin Teufel

Erwin Teufel ( born September 4, 1939 in Rottweil ) is a former German politician of the CDU.

He was from 1991 to 2005 Minister President of Baden -Württemberg and chairman of the CDU in Baden- Württemberg.

Education and work

Devil grew up as the son of a farmer on in Zimmern ob Rottweil and attended the Albertus-Magnus -Gymnasium in Rottweil. He left school after the acquisition of the average maturity. He then completed training for the higher administrative service, which he finished in 1961 with the state examination as a management host. By transforming the administrative management school Haigerloch in 1971 in a management college graduates subsequently the degree Diploma in Public Administration ( FH) was awarded.

In October 2005, devils began studying philosophy at the church Munich School of Philosophy, which, however, he broke in February 2008.

Family

Erwin Teufel is married with his wife Edeltraud four children and is the uncle of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament Stefan devil. His brother Albert hell was 1972-2004 successor of Erwin Teufel in the office of mayor of Spaichingen.

Political career and public offices

Devil was a founding member of the Junge Union in his home district of Rottweil, and from 1964 to 1965 her district chairman. From 1973 to 1991 he was chairman of the CDU Baden and District Association from 1991 to 2005 state chairman of the CDU in Baden- Württemberg. From 1992 to 1998 he was also deputy national chairman of the CDU. Devil was from 1972 to 2006 on the state parliament of Baden- Württemberg. Here he was from 1978 to 1991 Chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. Devil was always ( until 1976 constituency Villingen ) drafted as a directly elected delegates of the constituency Villingen-Schwenningen in the state legislature.

From 1964 to 1972, Mayor of Spaichingen devil. At the time of his election, he was only 25 years old and so the then recent German mayor. Successor in the office of the Spaichinger mayor was his brother Albert devil. Following the resignation of Lothar Späth devil was elected on 22 January 1991 Prime Minister of Baden- Württemberg.

After the CDU in the state election in 1992 significant losses and the loss of an absolute majority had suffered, it was under his leadership to form a grand coalition with the SPD. After the 1996 state election, the CDU was finally able to enter into a coalition with the FDP, which was also confirmed in the 2001 election. From 1 November 1996 to 31 October 1997, devils was scheduled according to President of the German Bundesrat.

1994 Devil was first appointed to the Committee of the Regions of Europe the EU. In the European Convention, convened by the European Council, he represented from February 2002 to July 2003, the German Länder. February 13, 2008 devil was appointed by the Federal Government and the German Bundestag as a member of the German Ethics Council until 2012.

Political action

While Devil's term of office came to the mergers of both the earlier regional energy providers EnBW and the two public broadcasters SDR and SWF to Southwest Broadcasting. Both mergers had devil predecessor Späth can not prevail. Furthermore, devil placed strongly suggests the formation of a powerful Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW ) and forced the construction of the new Stuttgart Trade Fair. Devil's last big project, a comprehensive administrative reform was enforced in 2004. Key points of this reform was the inclusion of country technical authorities (eg inspectorates and Forest Services ) in lower authorities such as urban and rural districts as well as in the intermediate authorities ( regional councils ).

After prolonged intra- party squabbles devil announced on 25 October 2004 that he would resign April 19, 2005 as the Prime Minister of Baden -Wuerttemberg and state chairman of the Southwest CDU. The favored by his successor Annette Schavan could not prevail party internally. The new prime minister, therefore, on 21 April 2005, the former CDU parliamentary leader Günther Oettinger was elected, who also took over the office of the CDU state chairman of the devil, on 29 April 2005.

Social commitment

Erwin Teufel was from 2008 to 2012 member of the German Ethics Council. He is also a board member of the Association ProChrist, the Munich Eugen Biser Foundation and the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma, as well as advisory board member of the Association Against Forgetting - For Democracy and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Research Center for International and Interdisciplinary Theology. By 2008 he was a member of the Central Committee of German Catholics. He is also President of the German - French Institute in Ludwigsburg and a member of the Council for Germany.

Honors and Awards

• Honorary Senator of the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg, the University of Kehl, Furtwangen University, the College of Police Villingen- Schwenningen, the Duale Hochschule Baden- Württemberg Villingen- Schwenningen, Jiaotong University, Shanghai ( China) and the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
• Honorary doctorate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst ( USA), the Agricultural University in Timişoara (Romania ) and the University of Oradea in Oradea (Romania).
• In 1997 he received the Grand Gold Medal with Ribbon for Services to the Republic of Austria.
• Erwin Teufel since 1998 Commander of the French Legion of Honour.
• 1999 awarded him the Naturschutzbund Germany the negative price dinosaur of the year.
• In 2000 he received the Estonian Marienland Cross Second Class.

• 2003 Devil honorary citizen of his hometown Spaichingen.

• On 11 May 2005 he was appointed honorary senator of the University of Tübingen.
• On 5 June 2005 Devil received at the Knesset in Jerusalem Teddy Kollek Prize as a tribute to his commitment to Jerusalem and the German -Israeli relations.
• On February 23, 2006 he was awarded the Saxon Order of Merit.
• On 15 June 2007 his honorary doctorate from the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen was awarded.
• On 26 April 2008, he received the Medal of Merit in Ludwigsburg, Baden- Württemberg.
• In July 2008, the Spaichinger vocational school was named after Erwin Teufel.
