Eskimo Joe

Eskimo Joe is an Australian rock band. She was known especially for her performance at the Live Earth concert in Sydney in 2007. Their name is derived from the restaurant Eskimo Joe's in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

History

Early years

Eskimo Joe was established in Fremantle in 1997. Kavyen Temperley (bass, vocals ), Joel Quartermain and Stuart MacLeod (both guitar ) participated as a band at the Australian National Campus band competition. Temperley and Quartermain at that time were simultaneously members of the band Freud 's Pillow, to which also included Simon Leach, the current guitarist of Little Birdy, and his brother Stuart Leach. Although the band first appeared together in the competition, winning Eskimo Joe the event. The prices were a performance at the Livid Festival and a session in the studio.

There they produced in April 1998, the EP Sweater whose eponymous title song made ​​it into the top 100 on radio station Triple J. A year later, the EP Eskimo Joe appeared with the successful songs Ruby Tuesday and Turn Up Your Stereo. The band earned its reputation among others at the Homebake Festival.

Albums Publications

The EMI offshoot Modular Records signed the band in 1999 under contract. Their producer was Ed Buller, who had previously worked with Ben Lee, Pulp and Suede. The debut album Girl debuted at # 40 in the Australian charts and reached gold in 2001 with titles such as Planet Earth and The Who Sold Her Out. Some of the songs were part of the TV show The Secret Life Of Us. With the release of the album, the popularity of the band increased significantly. In live performances, the keyboard and one on guitar were added.

Despite the success of the production company of the band split. The artist signed in 2002 a new contract with Festival Mushroom Records and produced their second album with Paul McKercher and Nick Launay. The single from the album From the Sea in 2004 reached the Top 40 of the ARIA Charts. It was used in commercials for the Australian Football Club West Coast Eagles. In September 2005, a DVD was released with all the video clips from the first two albums, a documentary, a collection of live performances and some rare tracks, including the popular sweater.

The third album Black Fingernails, Red Wine was published on 10 June 2006, reaching quadruple platinum. The single of the same rose in May 2006 at # 13 on the charts and was later with room 6, the first top 10 hit of the band. The second single from this album was released in September 2006. Sarah contained exclusive B-sides with live and acoustic versions of Black Fingernails, Red Wine and a cover version of the song Hey the band Pixies. The third single New York was released in early 2007, but was less successful with space 26. The fourth release off the album was the song Breaking Up, the fifth and final London Bombs.
