Nick Launay

Nick Launay (* 1960 in London ) is a British sound engineer and music producer who is known for his productions of Australian bands like Midnight Oil, INXS and Silverchair.

Life

Launay was born in London in 1960, but grew up in Frigiliana in Andalucia. In 1977 he returned with his family to London and began working as a sound engineer at Tape One Studio. A for fun created by Launay Remix by M 's Pop Muzik liked Robin Scott and was released as a maxi-single. Launay 1980 got a job as a sound engineer in the Town House Studios label Virgin Records and studied with John Leckie, Tony Visconti, Steve Lillywhite and Hugh Padgham. During this time he worked for artists such as The Jam (Sound Effects), XTC (Black Sea ), Simple Minds and others before John Lydon of Public Image Ltd.. him in 1981 asked her to co-produce their third album, Flowers of Romance. Hugh Padgham recommended him because of his drum sounds Kate Bush for her fourth album The Dreaming. He oversaw recordings for Killing Joke, the Slits, The Birthday Party, Spear of Destiny and Gang of Four. As a sound engineer he was responsible for albums by artists like Kate Bush ( The Dreaming ), Eric Clapton ( Behind the Sun ) or John Martyn ( Glorious Fool ). He became internationally known through his productions for Midnight Oil ( 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 ), The Church and INXS ( Swing). His connections with these Australian bands and the constant traveling between Britain and Australia led in 1994 to relocate to Sydney. Since 2002 he lives and works in Los Angeles and produced bands like Supergrass, Grinderman, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Cribs and Nick Cave.
