This chosen path away from the straight rock of the early days is followed on the fourth album " Diorama " (2002) more consistently. Some orchestral arrangements on this album were written by Van Dyke Parks. In 2007, then followed the fifth album " Young Modern ". This album is drawn by electronic influences as they can recognize ( with Paul Mac) John also in his ( electric ) side project The Dissociatives. However, it has resorted to this album again on orchestral support, for which the Czech Philharmonic was engaged.

Johns, head of the band, suffered for years from anorexia and severe depression. With these problems confronted the singer his audience in the play " Ana 's Song" ( from the album " Neon Ballroom ").
