The Bahnhof Essen - Steele Ost is now a suburban railway hub for the district of Essen Steele. It was opened in 1862 as the first of three stations once the former City Steele.

History

On March 1, 1862, section of the railway line Witten / Dortmund -Oberhausen / Duisburg between Essen and Bochum Steele and Wattenscheid by the Bergisch- Märkische Railway Company was opened.
