Estel

Estel was a fused steel companies, which had been agreed between Hoogovens in IJmuiden, the Netherlands, and Hoesch Dortmund in 1972. The head office of Estel was in Nijmegen, midway between IJmuiden and Dortmund. There still exists the building of the former Estel headquarters.

The merger ended in 1982 at the instigation of Hoesch Detlev Karsten Rohwedder CEO, who implemented the realization that the corporate cultures did not match and that the Dutch Steel manager systematically favored the interests of Dortmund operating parts when making decisions.

The business units of Estel are both now no longer independent; Hoogovens was renamed to Corus with British Steel and taken over by the Tata Group in 2007, the Hoesch AG in 1991, victims of the first hostile takeover in the German big business by Krupp and is with the rest of company after the merger of Krupp and Thyssen now part of ThyssenKrupp AG.
