Koninklijke Hoogovens

The Koninklijke Nederlandse Hoogovens ( = Royal Dutch blast furnaces ) is a 1918 Dutch based steel plant, were the Dutch State, the City of Amsterdam, Dutch companies and private investors whose owner.

Hoogovens was listed on the Dutch stock exchange in Amsterdam Aktiengesellschaft. While the steel crisis in 1972 Hoogovens merged with Hoesch AG in Dortmund for Estel Group. As early as 1982 this merger was reversed.

Hoogovens in IJmuiden has two blast furnaces, a Oxigenstahlwerk, rolling mills, two coking plants, which can be supplied cheaply by sea-going vessels. 1987 Hoogovens extended by the acquisition of Kaiser Aluminum their product range to include aluminum rolled and extruded aluminum. Production is based, inter alia, Koblenz. 1999 Hoogovens merged with British Steel Corus, with headquarters in London. Corus was bought by Tata Steel in 2007.

Chess tournament

In the chess world, the Nederlandse Hoogovens Koniklijke from 1938 became known as the sponsor of the annual Hoogovens tournament in Beverwijk and from 1967 in Wijk aan Zee, which is considered one of the most populated chess tournaments in the world.
