Esther Rolle

Esther Rolle ( born November 8, 1920 in Pompano Beach, Florida, † November 17, 1998 in Culver City, California ) was an American actress.

Esther was the tenth of 18 children. She attended Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, Florida and received her degree at the Blanche Ely High School. First, they studied on the Spelman College in Atlanta, until she moved to New York City. She attended Hunter College, The New School for Social Research and Yale University and was a member of the fraternity Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. For many years worked role in a traditional job in New York City's Garment District.

In 1990 she became the first woman the NAACP Chairman's Civil Rights Leadership Award.

Role died of complications from diabetes.

Career

Dance: role was a member of Asadata Dafora 's dance group, Shogolo Oloba ( later renamed the Federal Theater African Dance Troupe ). She became the director of the troupe in 1960.

Theater: Your earliest roles were on the stage; her New York stage debut was in 1962 as " The Blacks ". Rolles celebrity famous role was in Do not Play Us Cheap as Miss Maybell from the year 1973.

Film and Television: Rolles first screen debut is a small guy role in To Kill a Mockingbird. She appeared in Gordon Parks The Learning Tree (1969). Her sister, the actress Estelle Evans, played in both films. Esther Rolle appears at the beginning of her career in the 1964 film Nothing But a Man. In addition, she appeared in a number of TV movies and feature films, including Miss Daisy, and a president for all cases. A memorable role of Aunt Sarah in 1997 was in Rosewood. Role is primarily known for her television role as Florida Evans, it has played on two 1970s sitcoms. She was seen at the airing of the second season in Good Times, a program about Florida family. Role was nominated in 1975 with a Golden Globe for Best Actress in the category Musical / Comedy in Good Times.
