Étienne de Bar

Stephan von Bar (also Stephen of Metz) († December 29, 1163 ) was from 1120 to 1163 Bishop of Metz.

Life

Stephan came out of the house Scarponnois and was the son of Dietrich von Mousson and Ermentrude of Burgundy, daughter of Count William I of Burgundy. He was diagnosed at an early stage for service in the church and the mother of his uncle, Guy of Burgundy, Archbishop of Vienne and later became Pope Calixtus II educated.

Stephan was elected in 1107 to primicerius of Toul. After Guy of Burgundy in 1119 was elected Pope, he made Stephan in 1120 to the Bishop of Metz.
