Theodoric I, Count of Montbéliard

Dietrich von Mousson († 1102/1105 ) was a Count of Mousson, Altkirch and Pfirt out of the house Scarponnois. He was a son of Count Ludwig von Mousson and the Sophia of Bar, daughter of Duke Frederick II of Lorraine.

From his mother he inherited in 1093 the county bar and the Bailiwick of Saint- Mihiel. In 1096, he was loaned by Bishop Richer of Verdun and the county of Verdun. In the same year Dietrich wanted to join the First Crusade, but said his participation due to illness again. He founded the monasteries of this Biblisheim and Walbourg. He wrote his will in 1102 at the castle of Altkirch and died shortly afterwards. He was buried in the cathedral of Autun.

Dietrich was married Ermentrude of Burgundy, daughter of Count William I of Burgundy. His wife brought him the County of Montbéliard in the marriage, as a widow, she founded the monastery Froidefontaine. Their children were:

  • Rainald I. the one-eyed († 1149 ), Count of Bar Mousson and Altkirch
  • Dietrich II († 1163 ), Count of Montbéliard
  • Ludwig ( † 1102), participated in the First Crusade and was assassinated upon his return from own followers
  • Stephan († December 29, 1163 ), Archdeacon and Bishop of Metz in 1120, participated in the second crusade
  • Gunthilde († February 21, 1131 ), first abbess of Biblisheim
  • Agnes, ∞ with Count Hermann II von Salm ( a son of the anti-king Hermann of Salm )
  • Mathilde, ∞ with Count Adalbert of Mörsberg
