Étienne Delessert

Étienne Delessert ( born January 4, 1941 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss author, painter, illustrator, graphic artist and illustrator, who works as a children's author and illustrator of children's books in Europe and the U.S. since the 1960s.

Life

Delessert worked from 1959-1974 as a commercial artist in Switzerland, Paris and New York City, USA. In 1967 his first book sans fin la fête (English: The Endless Party, German: The Long Journey of animals). Other successful children's books originated from a collaboration with Eugène Ionesco and Jean Piaget. To date, Delessert has illustrated more than 80 books, some of which have been translated into 14 languages.

In the 1970s Delessert for Swiss television produced a series of children Yok - Yok. This series was in 1979 moved from the publishing house Gallimard in Paris as comic strips. In 1993 the series was re-issued by the U.S. publishing Creative Education from Mankato, Minnesota. Since 2011, the publishing house Gallimard jeunesse followed with a new edition in French.

Delessert is both Swiss and U.S. citizen and lives with his family both in Lakeville (Connecticut ) and in Lausanne.
