History

When the club was founded on 11 May 1925 were different names to choose from, for example, La Soussienne or La Musulmane. The finally adopted name Étoile Sportive du Sahel was chosen because we wanted to represent not only the city but the entire Sahel region. Thus, the Muslims had their club in Sousse, as previously with the French Patriots de Sousse, the Jews with Maccabi, the Italians with La Savoia and the Maltese with Red Star.

Etoile was the first "real" local team that could reach the championship final in a world characterized by French and Italian immigrants League ( 1931). Nevertheless, it took another 19 years to win the first championship for 1950. Since Etoile was able to record nine championships and seven Tunisian Cup victories. Among the major players of the team include Habib Mougou, Abdel Magid Chetali, Othmane Jenayah (former President ), Abdelselem Adhouma, Lotfi Hsoumi, Zoubaier Baya, Zied Jaziri, Francileudo Silva dos Santos, Amine Chermiti and Yassine Chikhaoui. In the last 10 years Etoile also celebrated international success in African club competitions such as winning the CAF Champions League 2007.
