Étouars

Étouars, Occitan Estoars, is a commune with 144 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It belongs to the district Nontron and Canton Bussière- Badil. The area of the municipality is also part of the Périgord -Limousin Regional Natural Park.

Geography

The community Étouars in the north of the Perigord is located about 8 kilometers from Javerlhac and around 12 kilometers from Nontron. Closest towns are Angoulême ( 40 km west ) and Limoges (65 km north-east of Étouars ).

Étouars is surrounded by the following municipalities:

  • Bussière- Badil in the north- west and north
  • Saint- Estephe in the East
  • Le Bourdeix in the southeast
  • Teyjat in the southwest
  • Soudat in the West (only one point of contact )

Étouars is a very small community. Her area includes the following hamlets, farms and brick factories: La Manugrie, La Tuilière de Ribièras, La Tuilière de rib Lacrète, Lavergne, Le Petit Étouars, Les Forges, Les Garenne, Les Grands Champs, Les Petits Champs, Les Quatre Routes and Ribièras.

The natural northwestern boundary of the municipality is the Ruisseau de l' Etang d' Assat, a part of the southeast border is the pent-up here Ruisseau des Forges. Furthermore, in Lacrète stems from the Marcourive.

The topographically lowest point of the municipality is located 170 meters above the sea at Ruisseau de l' Etang d' Assat in the far west. Geology

The deeper subsoil of the municipality of Étouars is formed by the Variscan basement of the north-western Massif Central - paragneiss, Metatexit, Leptynit and granodiorite ( Piégut -Pluviers granodiorite ). The Metatexit is crossed by a NE-SW treichenden microgranite gear. The line passing through the center ridge is built up of sediments of Hettangiums ( arkoses ), the transgredierten here over the granodiorite. Near the Brickyard La Tuileries de fin moves through a NNW- trending deportation. This stratigaphisch the higher-lying clay sediments of Aaleniums be open - welcome raw material for the local brickworks. The basement is cut by the creeks of Marcourive and the Ruisseau de l' Etang d' Assat, the intervening ridges are mostly of colluvial sands and gravels (usually rounded quartz pebbles ) of the Quaternary completely masked.

History

Direct traces of settlement from prehistoric times are in Étouars not available, but is likely to judge by finds in neighboring communities, the municipality of Étouars also have been inhabited as those times of people. There are finds from Gallo- Roman times. With the construction of the church began in the Middle Ages. Importance was Étouars between the 15th century and the 18th century as a place of iron smelting. In the hamlet Les Forges Iron ore was processed from the Nontronnais melted in blast furnaces (cast iron) and guns for the French Navy in Rochefort. The forge was operated by water power, the charcoal needed for the reduction came from the surrounding forest areas Jurakalke the more westerly communities served as a flux additive. Attractions

In the square next to the church one of the cast in Étouars cannon is placed. In addition, an experimental furnace was built and put into operation. The museum Fer et Forges (iron and forging) provides important background information on the former ironworks in the Haut Périgord. The actual forge is on the D3 south underneath the village. Get here are still several buildings and facilities such as the manor house, the warehouses for charcoal, canal systems, a small blast furnace and the lake with its former dam.

Worth seeing is also a large orchard of old core of fruit on the western outskirts.
