Ettrick, New Zealand

P1

Ettrick is a small settlement in the inland Otago region in the South Island of New Zealand. It lies south of the Clutha River south of Roxburgh.

The State Highway 8 connects with Ettrick Roxburgh in the north and the small settlement of Millers Flat in the south. Like many other settlements in the area are named after cities in the Scottish Borders, the streets of the town.

Ettrick was founded during the Otago gold rush in the 1860s by Scottish settlers and named after the Ettrick Valley in Scotland. Ettrick was one of the first places in New Zealand where apples were grown. Today, the main economic activities of sheep and cattle and a dwindling number of fruit farmers who grow mainly apples are.
