Eugen Jettel

Richard Alfred Eugen Jettel or Eugène Jettel ( born March 20, 1845 in John village, Moravia; † August 27, 1901 in Lussingrande, Croatia) was an Austrian painter.

Life

Richard Alfred Eugen Jettel was born the son of Ladislaus Hugo Jettel, an iron administrators, and of Sophie Jettel. After her mother's death, the family moved to Vienna.

In 1860, the 15 -year-old orphan arrived at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the class of Albert Zimmermann ( 1808-1888 ), where he met Emil Jakob Schindler ( 1842-1892 ), Robert Russ ( 1847-1922 ) and Rudolf Ribarz (1848-1904) met and studied until 1869 landscape painting. Study tours have taken him to France, Holland, Italy, Istria and Hungary.

Due to a well-paid contract, which was offered to him by the Paris-based Austrian art dealer Charles Sedelmayer, moved Eugen Jettel 1875 in the French capital, where he led a successful life. He regularly exhibited 1877-1881 at the Salon des Champs- Elysées and 1890-1897 in the Salon du Champ du Mars and he was nominated a member of the World Fair jury. As a special honor, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour.

Charles Sedelmayer had probably hoped that Eugen Jettel would marry his daughter. As this but from Vienna Cilli Mailer, the daughter of a glove factory, let meet and married, Sedelmayer reduced the covers, so that the pair fell again in financial straits.

Eugen Jettel was the center of a circle of Austrian and German artists in Paris, but he had contact with French artists and found connection to the circle of the Barbizon School.

An inheritance gave him the means to return in 1897 to Vienna, where he was also successful and Archduke Carl Stephen and his wife, Archduchess Maria Theresia, his special conveyor were. During his last years he repeatedly traveled to Istria, where he devoted himself to landscape painting further.

Eugen Jettel died before the start of a study trip with Archduke Carl Stephen, which should lead them into the Adriatic, in Lussingrande and was buried in the cemetery of Saint Anne on September 1, 1901 in Trieste. 1916, the grave was closed.

Eugen Jettel brother Wladimir Eugen Eduard Jettel was also a landscape painter. He received his education, however, in Dresden.
