Eulogio Balao

Eulogio Balao Balauitan ( born March 11, 1907 in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, † 1977) was a Filipino soldier and politician, the Minister of Defense and was at times for a legislative period senator.

Life

Balao and after completing high school in Tuguegarao 1926, the entrance exam for the Military Academy ( Philippine Military Academy ), but was postponed because of his age for a year and joined the meantime as a corporal in the police ( Philippine Constabulary ) a. In June 1927, he joined as a graduate in the Military Academy and was transferred to its completion in 1931 as a lieutenant Class Three to Laguna, where he was wounded in Santa Rosa in the rebellion in Central Luzon.

1936 Balao was promoted to lieutenant and worked as an instructor at the Police Academy ( Philippine Constabulary Academy) worked before he graduated from the military academy of the U.S. Army at Fort Benning in Georgia. After his return to the Philippines 1941, he was promoted to captain and first was used as administrative officer in the 2nd Infantry unit in Mindanao under the command of General Calixto Duque. After that, he was an instructor at the Military Academy.

During the Pacific War in World War II, he was transferred to the United States Army Forces, Far East ( USAFFE ) and took over the function of the Commanding Officer of the 11th Infantry Battalion of the 11th Division. In the following years he organized this unit and led them, after further training in various combat missions. The unit added during the Battle of the Bessang pass on June 14, 1945, troops of the Imperial Japanese Army under General Tomoyuki Yamashita heavy losses at.

After World War II Balao was promoted to colonel and commanded in the following years numerous combat missions against the Hukbalahap in Central and Southern Luzon. In 1949 he took over the role as military attaché at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China and in 1953 was promoted to brigadier general.

Because of his military merit, bravery and experience, he was appointed on 11 March 1954 to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines ( Armed Forces of the Philippines ) and has held this post until he on January 3, 1956 by President Ramon Magsaysay as successor Sotero B. Cabahug of State for Defence ( Secretary of National Defense). This minister he also practiced in the government of Magsaysays successor Carlos P. Garcia from until his replacement by Jesus M. Vargas on August 27, 1957.

Following Balao successfully ran for a seat in the Senate, where he attended for a legislative period of 30 December 1957 to 30 December 1963.
