History

Today's sailing ship Europe was left in the year 1911 as unpowered lightship under the name of Senator Brockes in the Hamburg shipyard HC Stülcken son from the stack. As Lightship Elbe 4 and pilot station on the river Elbe as well as Elbe 3 and 4 was this same ship until 1977 almost without interruption in service. From about 1975 they began to replace the costly and labor-intensive light vessels by large buoys and automatic stations on the sea routes.

The old fire ships had almost all sailing ship hulls, as they were particularly well in the often rough seas their fixed anchorages. A buyer from Hamburg acquired the ship for scrap price and began in 1986 with the conversion to a real sailing ship, but was overwhelmed. 1987 bought the Dutchman Harry Smit the hull and invested a million sum for the renovation of the ship. Until 1994 it was a three-masted sailing ship with a Barktakelung. From ancient ships salvaged mahogany panels were installed inside the ship and processed traditionally much brass.

Use

The Euro is used worldwide as a charter ship. She has repeatedly circled the globe and sailed around Cape Horn.
