European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional Languages (MIDAS)
The European Association of Daily Newspapers in Minority and Regional Languages ( Minority Dailies Association - MIDAS ) is a politically independent, "non- profit" association of minority press with the Secretariat based at the European Academy in Bolzano ( EURAC).
MIDAS was founded in 2001 by chief editors of various newspapers from more than ten European language communities. The objectives are to co-ordinate joint newspaper relevant issues; Cooperation in the areas of information sharing, printing and marketing; Organizing campaigns to market the members Newspapers and support for minority languages and their print media by government and EU institutions.
Each year, invites journalists MIDAS its member newspapers and journalists majority of media to a shared Study Visit in a minority area, a, is mediated in the exchange of information and knowledge about minority protection and cultural diversity in Europe. In recognition of journalists to decide which specific standards of journalism and write special contributions to cultural diversity and the protection of minority languages , gives the MIDAS Otto von Habsburg and the Midas journalists price.
31 days newspapers from Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Finland, Croatia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Northern Ireland, Romania, Switzerland, Slovakia and Spain have already joined MIDAS and the organization continues to grow. The Midas member newspapers reach a readership of 3 million in thirteen languages.
