European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy

The Commissioner for Enlargement is a member of the European Commission. He is responsible for planned EU enlargements and conduct the negotiations with the candidate countries (Iceland, Macedonia and Turkey) and the EU's neighbors in the Western Balkans. The resort since 1977, partly in conjunction with other responsibilities. From 1989 to 1993 there was no enlargement commissioner.

In the Barroso II Commission, which began its work in February 2010, the Commissioner is also responsible for Enlargement for the European Neighbourhood Policy, which was subordinate to the Commissioner for External Relations until then. However, the Commissioner for Enlargement, in close consultation with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy shall act, which takes the lead role for the whole of the common foreign and security policy.

Current incumbent is Štefan Füle.
