Hans van den Broek

Henri ( Hans) van den Broek ( born December 11, 1936 in Paris) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA ).

Van den Broek worked as a lawyer. His political career began in the Catholic People's Party ( KVP ) for which he sat from 1970 to 1974 in the City Council of Rheden. From 1976 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament.

In 1982 he was appointed as Foreign Minister in the government of Ruud Lubbers. This office he held until 1993. After that, he was until 1999 a member of the European Commission Jacques Delors and Jacques Santer.

Him the honorary rank of Minister of State was awarded in 2005.

Above all, his role during the disintegration of Yugoslavia was very controversial. It has often been claimed that he was the executor of Serbian interests with the approval of France, Britain and the United States.
