The European elections in June 1999 was the first in the also Austria, Finland and Sweden were involved. The European elections took place on 10 to 13 June. The turnout was generally low, except in Belgium and Luxembourg, where simultaneously held national elections. The subsequent European elections took place in 2004.

Distribution of seats

1 The Technical Group of Independent Members originally counted 29 members. During the term, however, changed the nine members of the National Alliance for UEN. In addition, the deputies of the Euskal Herritarrok and a deputy of the Lega Nord left the group before these had to close in October 2001.

2 During the term of the nine members of the National Alliance moved from the Technical Group of Independent Members to the UEN, so that they had grown in the meantime to 31 deputies. During the legislative session, however, still left a deputy of the RPF, the UEN, so that she counted 30 members at the end.

3 Originally, only the five members of the Freedom Party and the DUP MPs from the non-attached. During the legislative session, however, were still the deputy of Euskal Herritarrok as well as one deputy of the RPF and Lega Nord added. In October 2001, followed by the remaining 18 of the Technical Group of Independent Members.
