Description

Appearance and leaf

Eurycorymbus cavaleriei grows as a deciduous tree and reaches stature heights of up to 20 meters. The bark is gray. The bark of the branches terete is hairy tomentose.

The alternate arranged on the branches leaves are divided into petiole and leaf blade and a total of 14 to 45 inches long. The paired pinnate leaf blade has arranged almost constantly against four to ten leaflets. The Blattrhachis is pressed softly hairy. The stems of the leaflets are more than 1 cm long. The thin parchment-like leaflets are at a length of 7 to 11 centimeters and a width of 2.5 to 3.5 inches oblong- lanceolate or oblong- ovate with broad keilfömiger base, tapered at the top and serrated edge. On each leaflets about 16 pairs are arranged thin lateral nerves tight. The lower leaf surface is hairy or nearly hairless soft hairs on the midrib and on the upper leaf surface only on the median nerve. There are no stipules present.

Inflorescence and flower

The flowering period extends into China from May to June. Eurycorymbus cavaleriei is dioecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( dioecious ). In a terminal or at the end of the branch pendant, globular, thyrsenförmigen inflorescences many flowers are tight. The inflorescence axes are hairy tomentose. The hub and shroud leaves are very small. The flower stalks are 2 to 5 millimeters long.

The fragrant, unisexual flowers are radial symmetry and fünfzählig double perianth. The five overlapping like roof tiles, thin membranous sepals are ovate with a length of 1 to 1.5 millimeters and hairy tomentose on the underside. The five petals are nailed at a length of 2 millimeters short, spoon-shaped and hairy shaggy on the bottom. The edge of the annular disk is notched. In male flowers are usually eight, rarely seven stamens present, the project beyond the corolla. The thin, bare stamens are 4 millimeters long. The small anthers are ovate. In the female flowers are usually three, rarely four carpels fused to a wrong - heart-shaped, upper continuous, usually three, rarely vierkammerigen ovary; this is hairy tomentose. In each ovary chamber two ovules are present. The inserted between the ovary lobes style is filiform and erect.

Fruit and seeds

In China, the fruits ripen in October. The lokulizide capsule fruit is deeply divided in three, rarely four part fruit. It usually develop only one or rarely two of them to a length of about 8 mm and a diameter of about 7 mm wide - ovate or broadly ellipsoid, tomentose hairy, fertile part of fruit. The pericarp is leathery. The part fruit opens at maturity and contains only one seed. The almost spherical seed has a black, rigid seed coat ( testa). The small hilum is vermilion. The embryo is zuammengerollt.

Occurrence and risk

Eurycorymbus cavaleriei occurs in the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Yunnan and Taiwan. It thrives in laurel forests at altitudes 300-1400 m.

In the red list of endangered species by the IUCN in 1998 Eurycorymbus cavaleriei as " near threatened " = " low risk" rated and should be updated. Habitat losses are recorded in the whole distribution area. Some sites are in protected areas.
