Eva Taylor

Eva Taylor ( born January 22, 1895 in St. Louis as Irene Joy Gibbons; † 31 October 1977 in Mineola, New York) was an American blues and jazz vocalist and actress.

Life and work

Eva Taylor began her career already as a child star in a revue touring troupe that also Europe, Australia and New Zealand toured 1900-1920. . They then went to the United States with the vaudeville troupe " Josephine Gassman and Her pickaninnies " on tour. In 1920 she came to New York City, where she is a popular singer in the night clubs of Harlem soon. In 1921 she married the pianist and producer Clarence Williams; the pair then worked on various projects, many songs and a music revue called " Bottomland " and on various radio programs. 1922 emerged Eva Taylor's first recordings for the African American label Black Swan, which they marketed as "The Dixie Nightingale ". Then worked in the 1920s and 1930s at numerous blues, jazz and popular songs by Okeh and Columbia Records and had 1925 first hits with the songs " Everybody Loves My Baby" (# 10), and " Cake Walkin ' Babies from Home "( # 13).

In the early 1940s, she retired from the music business and only appeared occasionally in concerts and nightclubs. After the death of her husband she returned mid-1960s back into the music business and also went on tours in Europe.
