Evelyn Baghtcheban

Evelyn Baghcheban (* 1928, † October 31, 2010 in Istanbul) was an Iranian opera singer (mezzo- soprano) and music teacher.

Biography

After school, she studied at the State Conservatory in Ankara ( Hacettepe Üniversitesi Ankara Devlet Konservatuvarı ). After marriage with composer Samin Baghcheban, whom she met in Istanbul and with whom she was married until his death in 2008, she settled in Tehran and taught the first singing lessons at a local music school.

Among her students were the tenor Mohammad Nuri as well as the singer Pari Zanganeh and Sudabeh Tajbaksh. She also founded at the beginning of your stay in Iran Tehran National Choir.

Evelyn Baghcheban is counted among the founders of opera in Iranian music and also helped the musicians Monir Vakili, Heshmat Sanjari, Fakhereh Saba in founding the " Rudaki Hall ", a concert hall for classical music performances. Her last years she spent with her family in Turkey, where she was a lecturer in piano at the Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts until her retirement.
