The Evenburg is a moated castle in the Leer district Loga near the Leda.

History

The first buildings of the Evenburg was built by Colonel Erhard baron of Ehrentreuter of Hofrieth (1596-1664), commander of the Dutch garrison in Emden, in the 1630s. He named the castle after his coming from Bohemia wife Eva Baroness von Ungnad, whom he married in 1631. The Lehnsrechte for Loga and the neighboring Logabirum had received from Colonel Ehrentreuter of Count Ulrich II of East Frisia in return for substantial gambling debts.

Marie of Ehrentreuter (1633-1702), the youngest daughter of the builder, married Gustav Wilhelm Freiherr von Wedel (1641-1717), a native of Königsberg. As later Field Marshal of the Danish King Christian V of the new men on the Evenburg was also governor of the Oldenburg State. Architecture

In the years 1861/1862 was at that time in need of repair building, which was one of the earliest testimonies of classical architecture in the Dutch style, largely demolished. Only in the middle section the foundation walls and the vault of the transept older were included in the new residential palace.

The present building was built in neo-Gothic style by architect Richard Stueve from Hannover. During World War II (1939-1945), the castle was badly damaged, was already no longer inhabited at that time. The filigree roof structures could not be restored, the roof was covered very simply.

In June 1975, the district of Leer, the Evenburg acquired with the associated lands for about seven million German marks from the family of Wedel. The first renovation mainly concerned the interiors.

With the help of European funding the Evenburg was restored from 2004 in the state of the mid-19th century. The neo-Gothic roof and numerous details of interior architecture were restored. The inauguration took place in January 2007.

Uses

Descendants of the family von Wedel, whose primary residence is now Castle Gödens in the Sande, inhabited for centuries the Evenburg. From about the 1920s the castle was no longer inhabited and was only used occasionally for prestigious events.

In the 1970s, the district media center and the teacher training college were housed here first.

A visit to the castle is possible during public tours. In the hall and in the fore-castle concerts and other events.

Today, located in the Evenburg among other vocational academy in East Friesland and the Study Seminar for high school teachers. The total area of the building is approximately 1,000 square feet.

Worth seeing is the long double avenue that leads from the town Empty the castle, surviving older equipment such as the Baroque bailey are from 1703 (here is the music school of the district ), the vestibule and remains of former stables, and extensive landscape park in style the English landscape garden with access to the Ledadeich.
