Extra Life (band)
Extra Life was an American folk-rock and RIO band, which was founded in 2006 as a solo project of guitarist and singer Charlie Looker in Brooklyn. On April 10, 2012 their third and last studio album "Dream Seeds " was released.
History
, Who until then had worked with most other experimental bands such as Zs and Dirty Projectors Charlie Looker, left this group in 2006 to launch his solo project Extra Life. With a first EP, he walked around New York City on tour. Two years later he began to recruit more members for Extra Life; published in May 2008, the debut album " Secular Works " took Extralife already as a quartet. On the second album "Made Flesh", which was recorded as a quintet, only bassist Anthony Gedrich was left of the main cast except Charlie Looker; Drummer Ian Antonio, however, was still involved as Gastperkussionist to the recordings.
On November 13, 2012 Extra Life announced their resolution. They played the last concert on January 19, 2013 in Brooklyn.
Style and reception
As influences, the band is called, among other things, the No Wave band Swans, the folk-rock band Steeleye Span and the jazz musician John Coltrane. Musically, it is often associated with the folk-rock and avant-garde music, with particular Charlie Lookers is highlighted by the Renaissance -influenced vocal music.
