Faberrebe

Faber, also Faberrebe, is a grape variety that was in 1929 by Georg Scheu crossed at the State Institute for Grapevine Breeding in Alzey of Chardonnay and Müller- Thurgau. The original details of the breeder, if it were a cross of Pinot Blanc and Müller -Thurgau, were disproved in the meantime by a DNA analysis of di Vecci - Staraz in 2009 werden.Der plant variety protection and the entry in the list of varieties carried out in 1967. This white wine brings pronounced fruity wine with a characteristic mild nutmeg flavor - out ( > aromas in wine). Due to the high acid values Faberrebe delivers fresh and racy wines. Due to the early maturity in addition to the stocks in Germany also smaller plantings known in England.

In 2008, an initiative " Relaunch F" was started to give the, increasingly forgotten variety a new image and improve their marketing opportunities again by some wineries.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is medium to strong hairy white wool.
  • The leaves ( see also the article sheet form) are three-to five-lobed and sinuate deep. The petiole sinus V-shaped open. The leaf margin is serrated blunt. Compared to other varieties, the teeth are set moderately dilated. The leaf surface (also called lamina ) is slightly blistered.
  • The drum-shaped grape is medium in size and easy - to dichtbeerig. The slightly elongated berries are medium in size and of a yellowish green color.

The schwachwüchsige Faberrebe ripens from mid-September. The maturity is thus early to medium early. A special Botrytisanfälligkeit berries is not present. On the other hand, there is a susceptibility to stem necrosis, which can be counteracted by suitable cultivation measures. In addition, it tends to strong avarice shoot formation, which leads to a slightly elevated canopy management in the vineyard.

A must weight of 80-85 degrees Oechsle can be achieved at 100-150 hl / ha. This variety provides steady returns, so that targeted a reduction in yield vine training should be conducted in order to achieve good quality wines. At low mustweights the wine can have unpleasant flavors.
