Fabian Barbiero

Fabian Barbiero (2010)

Fabian Barbiero ( born May 2, 1984 in Adelaide ) is an Australian football player of Italian descent. The midfielder is on the A- League club Adelaide United.

Career

After holding several positions in the South Australian Premier League, the top division of the State of South Australia, Barbiero came in the 2007/ 08 season to several short-term contracts at Adelaide United as a replacement for injured players. For the following season, he received a one-year contract with Adelaide and developed in central midfield for regular players. He reached the final of the Adelaide AFC Champions League 2008, came in the two final defeats against Gamba Osaka but not used. With the finals in continental competition, Adelaide qualified for the FIFA Club World Championship 2008, stood by the Barbiero in two games in the starting lineup.

In the Preliminary Final of the A- League season 2008/ 09 against Queensland Roar by Barbiero shot scored the 1-0 winning goal and secured his team into the finals. It was the only hit Adelaide in the play-off phase, in the final they lost Melbourne Victory 0-1.

For the qualifying match against Kuwait on 5 March 2009 in the framework of the Asia Cup 2011, national coach Pim Verbeek Barbiero nominated for the first time in the Australian national team. In the 0-1 defeat he came on as a substitute for use.
