Region

Falmey is a rural municipality and the capital of the eponymous department Falmey in Niger.

Geography

Falmey lies in the large landscape Sudan at the mouths of the Dallol Bosso and Mekrou in the river Niger. The municipality is bordered to the south by the neighboring state of Benin. The neighboring communities in Niger are Fabidji in the north, Gollé, Guilladjé and Sambéra in the east and in the west Kirtachi. The municipality is divided into 38 administrative villages, 13 villages and 70 hamlets traditional. The main town of the rural community is Falmey consisting of the administrative villages Falmey Djerma and Falmey Haoussa. Another important administrative village in Falmey is Boumba.

History

1964 was divided into seven administrative reform Niger departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments. Falmey was added to the newly created district Boboye, but was given the status of an administrative post ( poste administratif ) within the territory of the arrondissement. Administrative posts were special territorial units one level below arrondissements that were regarded as a kind of precursor to a later conversion into a separate district. In 1998, the former arrondissements of Niger were converted into departments. The administrative posts of Falmey was removed in 2011 from the Department Boboye and collected at the Department Falmey.

Population

At the 2001 census Falmey had 56,650 inhabitants. For the year 2010 75.867 inhabitants were calculated.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture.
