Boboye is a department in the Dosso region in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the southwest of the country. It consists of the township Birni N'Gaouré and the rural communities Fabidji, Fakara, Harikanassou, Kankandi, Kiota, Koygolo and N'Gonga. The capital of the department is Birni N'Gaouré. The department is named after it passing through Wadi Dallol Bosso, who is called in the language Zarma Boboye. Dallol Bosso is a Fulfulde word. Boboye literally means " valley ".

History

After independence Niger in 1960, the territory into 32 districts ( circonscriptions ) was divided. One of them was the district Boboye. 1964 divided an administrative reform in Niger seven departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments. As part of the district Boboye was converted to the district Boboye. Plans from the 1960s to extract Falmey as a separate district from Boboye were never implemented. In 1998, the former arrondissements of Niger in departments were converted, each headed by an appointed Council of Ministers is prefect. The structure of the department in communities exists since the year 2002. Previously, it consisted of the urban center Birni N'Gaouré and the cantons Birni N'Gaouré / Boboye, Harikanassou / Kiota and Koygolo. 2011 Falmey was dissolved as a separate department from the Department Boboye. The 2013 appointed Prefect of Boboye is Ibrahim Boubakar.

Population

The Department has Boboye 2012 253.070 inhabitants according to the census. In the 2001 census, before the dissolution of Falmey, there were 270 188 inhabitants in the census 1988 205 467 inhabitants in the census 1977 142 273 inhabitants.
