Dosso is a department in the same region of Dosso in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the southwest of the country, bordering Benin. It consists of the Municipality of Dosso and the rural communities Farey, Garankédey, Gollé, Goroubankassam, Karguibangou, mokko, Sambéra, Tessa, Tombokoirey I and II Tombokoirey The eponymous capital of the department is Dosso.

History

The Department Dosso goes back historically to the circle Dosso ( cercle de Dosso ), which was established in 1907 by the French military administration and originally included the territory of the present departments of Gaya and Say. After independence in 1960, Niger's territory into 32 districts ( circonscriptions ) was divided. One of them was the district Dosso. 1964 was divided into seven administrative reform Niger departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments. As part of the district Dosso was converted to the district Dosso. Moutari Moussa, later president of the National Assembly, presided from 1977 to 1978 as a sub- prefect of the arrondissement.
