Fantastic Least Gecko

Sphaerodactylus fantasticus

The Sphaerodactylus fantasticus is a type of ball end geckos ( Sphaerodactylus ) and belongs to the family of Sphaerodactylidae.

Features

Sphaerodactylus fantasticus is a very small gecko species and reaches a head -body length up to 28 mm, the overall length is up to 45 mm. The dorsal scales are keeled, granular scales the center back, the scales of whitish to gray-colored ventral side can be either smooth or keeled. The brownish to rust colored and brighter, dark -bordered ocelli (eye spots) has drawn tail keeled upper side, lower side centered slightly enlarged scales on. The body top is marked by bright and dark spots, the head is light brown in color, shimmers slightly bluish and optionally has dark lines or spots, but certainly not a pattern on. The side of the head, a pattern of dark lines on the mouth column running down to the throat.

Way of life

Sphaerodactylus fantasticus performs a diurnal lifestyle. The type is active until twilight in search of food and captured primarily small insects and arachnids. It also has behaviors of a culture follower, as such, it holds on to huts and houses, in gardens or on plantations. Reproduction takes place by oviparity, Sphaerodactylus fantasticus is therefore oviparous; it is stored in damp crevices and similar hiding individual 5-7 mm large eggs.

Occurrence

Sphaerodactylus fantasticus is particularly common in Guadeloupe. Sphaerodactylus fantasticus anidrotus comes in the south of Guadeloupe on the island of Marie- Galante, Sphaerodactylus fantasticus fuga exclusively on the west coast of Dominica, Sphaerodactylus fantasticus hip Campomanes in East Guadeloupe on the island of La Désirade, Sphaerodactylus fantasticus Karukera within Guadeloupe, among others, in Le Gosier, as well as on island of Iles de la Petite Terre, Sphaerodactylus fantasticus ligniservulus on the situated northwest of Guadeloupe island of Montserrat, Sphaerodactylus fantasticus orescius on Basse -Terre ( one of the two main islands ), Sphaerodactylus fantasticus phyzacinus among other things, Iles des Saintes and Sphaerodactylus fantasticus tartaropylorus in the north of the second main island, Grande- Terre, before. There are inhabited human settlement area moist forests, forests and plantations, as well as rocks, wood of all kinds and parts.

  • Sphaerodactylus fantasticus tartaropylorus (Thomas, 1964)

From the north and south of Basse -Terre mixed forms of the subspecies Sphaerodactylus fantasticus orescius and Sphaerodactylus fantasticus Karukera have become known.
