The Farmington River is a right tributary of the Connecticut River in Hartford County of the U.S. state of Connecticut.

The Farmington River is formed at the confluence of its two headwaters of East Branch and West Branch Farmington River southeast of New Hartford. He initially flows in a south-southeast direction over to Collinsville and Unionville. In Farmington, the river makes a sharp bend to the north and passes through the small town of Avon. In Tariffville the Farmington River a sharp turn now performs again to the southeast. The river flows in the lower reaches in a predominantly easterly direction and meets at Windsor on the Connecticut River. The Farmington River has a length of 75 km. With a catchment area of 1580 km ² of the Farmington River is one of the largest tributaries of the Connecticut River.

About 22.5 km of the West Branch Farmington River and just under 2 km of the Farmington River below the confluence of its two source rivers to the city boundary between New Hartford and Canton are awarded as National Wild and Scenic River.
