Fates Warning
Fates Warning is an American metal band, one of the founders of Progressive Metal. After the founding of the band in 1983 in Connecticut appeared in 1984 their first album under the title Night on Bröcken, which was still strongly influenced by the influence of traditional heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden. The debut album was not considered very significant, whereas the subsequent five albums the group are considered to be crucial to the development of progressive metal, which applies particularly to their publications between the years 1985 and 1988 with the plates The Spectre Within ( 1985), Awaken the Guardian (1986) and No Exit (1988). These albums are characterized by complex and intricate vocal structures that show Eastern influences. In addition, the professional guitar playing of Matheos and Arduini / Aresti, which is characterized by complex riffs, tempo changes, song relevant, but also adapted virtuoso solos and acoustic passages.
Band History
The band's history can generally be divided into three phases: the first phase is formed by the first three albums, on which John Arch sang. During this time developed Fates Warning, starting from the " Iron Maiden -like" debut their own style. The lyrics on these albums came from the fantasy range and tended to have occult and philosophical allusions.
The following four or five regular studio albums constitute the second stage with Ray Alder on vocals. Acoustic elements found their way, the music is overall less aggressive, the texts are increasingly introspective, act of farewell, misunderstandings and search for meaning. This style was already on Perfect Symmetry - perfected, resulting in comparatively great commercial success led this and the subsequent Parallels - the second album of the phase. Published Parallels and Inside Out two more melodic and less complex albums, some of which received good reviews, but have been criticized in part as too commercial.
