Fattatenda ( spelling variant: Fatta Tenda, Fattetenda and Fatatenda, Fatotenda ) is a town of historical importance in the West African nation of Gambia.

Geography

Fattatenda is located in the Upper River Region in the district Wuli and is about two kilometers from Badja Kunda and 25 kilometers from Basse Santa Su, lies on the Gambia River, where it has a dock. The river, which reached even in the dry season, which lasts from December to April, has a width of 100 meters and a depth of four to six meters a twelve to sixteen feet higher booth during the rainy season

History

The Portuguese had (also Faktorei ) founded here in the 15th century, a trading post. At that time prevailed in the area, the Kingdom of Wuli, which was under the Mali Empire. End of the 19th century, the French Compagnie Française d' Afrique Occidentale had here and in Yarbutenda a trading post.
