Federal Ministry of Health (Germany)

The Federal Ministry of Health (BMG ), shortly Federal Ministry of Health, is a Supreme Authority of the Federal Republic of Germany. It has its headquarters in Bonn and its second service based in Berlin.

History

The Ministry was established as the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG ) 1961 and 1969 the Federal Ministry for Family and Youth incorporated, which from now on Ministry of Youth, Family and Health ( now the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth) was called.

After a name change in 1986 in the Federal Ministry for Youth, Family, Women and Health in 1991, the elimination of the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG ), so that the original separation of the departments was restored. In this spin-off the BMG received the key to the health policy department " health care, health insurance" from the (then) Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and is only since the central actor in the health policy. In 2002 it was expanded to include social ( pension and long-term care ) and called in consequence, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Security ( Federal Ministry of Health ). 2005, the responsibility for the pension was transferred back to the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and since then the department is called again the Federal Ministry of Health.

  • Paul -Ehrlich -Institut (PEI, Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines ) in Langen (Hessen)
  • Robert Koch Institute (RKI, the Federal Institute for infectious diseases and non-communicable diseases ) in Berlin

After merging of family and Ministry of Health 1969, the former director of the health department, Kate Strobel, first joint Minister was.

The only common Federal Minister for Health and Social Security, Ulla Schmidt, both before, and after, the sole Federal Minister for Health.
