Federico Vairo Moramarco ( born January 27, 1930 in Rosario, † December 7, 2010 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine footballer. With the national team of his native country, he participated in the Football World Cup 1958.
Career
Club career
Federico Vairo began his footballing career in 1950 with the club CA Rosario Central in his home town. In Rosario Central, where he already played in his youth, the defender remained until the year 1954, before he moved to Buenos Aires in the Argentine capital to CA River Plate. In a team with other Argentine football greats of the time as Ángel Labruna Ermindo Onega and Norberto Menéndez won Federico Vairo his first Argentine championship anno 1955, when the Nobel club of Argentina in the Primera División first place with seven points clear of Racing Club from Avellaneda occupied. In the following season was River Plate at the end of the top of the table, this time with two points ahead of Lanus. 1957 River Plate succeeded once again to defend the title, with eight points ahead of San Lorenzo de Almagro, the first place was reached. Federico Vairo remained until 1959 with River Plate, but did not win another title. From 1960 he played for CD O'Higgins in the Chilean city of Rancagua. With the club he joined in 1963 from the Primera División in Chile, but managed already in the following year by a first place in the second division a return to excellence. This first place in the Primera División B is still the only title by CD O'Higgins. Vairo remained in Rancagua until 1966. During the year he moved to Colombia to Deportivo Cali, where he end his career until 1967. After the end of his active career, Federico Vairo first distanced from football business. Finally, from 1999 to 2010 he worked as a scout for River Plate in the province of Santa Fe. On December 7, 2010 Vairo died in Buenos Aires at the age of 80 years from stomach cancer.
National
In the Argentine national football team Federico Vairo 1955-1958 41 times was used. From Argentina coach Guillermo Stábile he was called to the squad for the World Cup 1958. At the tournament in Sweden, he came in all three games of the disappointing at the tournament Argentines used. After the preliminary round, Argentina difference after just one win against Northern Ireland ( 3-1 ) and two defeats against Germany (1:3) and Czechoslovakia ( 1:6 ) as the group last. Then Vairo ended his national team career.
