Fernando Arêas Rifan

Fernando Areas Rifan ( born October 25, 1950 in São Fidélis, Brazil) is Titular Bishop of Cedamusa and Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Administratio personaliz Sancti Ioannis Mary Vianney.

Today Bishop Rifan was ordained priest on December 8, 1974 and followed the former Bishop of Campos, Antônio de Castro Mayer ( 1904-1991, 1988 excommunicated ), connected in with the Society of St. Pius X. altritualistische " Priestly Fraternity of St.. John Mary Vianney " ( União São João Maria Vianney Sacerdotal ), and in 2002 their illicitly consecrated bishop Licínio Rangel ( 1936-2002 ) back into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. The re-union was made possible after the Vatican to establish a Apostolic Personnel Administration of the Old Ritualists in the field and within the limits of the diocese of Campos, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil ) granted, and had assured the posthumous appointment of a successor of Bishop Rangel. Due to serious illness Rangel received on 28 June 2002 a coadjutor in the person of the titular bishop of Cedamusa appointed Fernando Areas Rifan. This was on 18 August 2002 by Cardinal Castrillón Hoyos, Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, and consecrated Licinio Rangel after the earlier Roman Pontifical ( used in its 1962 version) bishop. Bishop Rifan took over with the death of his predecessor on 16 December 2002 its successor.

Rifan is currently the world's only bishop of the Old Ritualists united with Rome and not restricted its activities to area and boundaries of the Diocese of Campos.
