Campos is a city in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil with around 430,000 inhabitants, situated on the Rio Paraíba do Sul, 280 kilometers northeast of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Campos covers an area of 4031.91 km ².
In the region, especially sugar cane is grown and processed, followed by coffee, tobacco, and tropical fruits. But is economically important role as a center of oil production.
The biggest attraction of the city is derived from the ancient Basilica of 1652 " Sao Salvador ". Campos has quiet beaches with houses of local fishermen and, increasingly, with weekend homes.
The high waves in the vicinity of the mouth of the Rio Furado you can use for surfing. The municipal area is also the Lagoa Feia ( German: Ugly lake ), the 170 km ² second largest freshwater lake in Brazil.
Campos is also a bishopric.
