Mangaratiba, Conceição de Jacareí Itacuruçá, Muriqui, Serra do Piloto and Praia Grande

Mangaratiba is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro and is about 18 m above sea level, 85 km west of the capital on the road to Santos (SP). The population is about 36,300. The area covers approximately 361 km ².

The highest elevation in the municipality are the Três orelhas ("three ears" ) with 1,100 m. Located to the attractively located between the Atlantic rain forest and the Sepetiba bay on the Costa Verde ( " Green Coast " ) area has numerous beaches and also around 30 islands.

The municipality is divided into the districts Mangaratiba, Conceição de Jacareí Itacuruçá, Muriqui, Serra do Piloto and Praia Grande.

The neighboring municipalities are Mangaratiba Angra dos Reis, Itaguaí and Rio Claro.

The economy Mangaratibas is determined mainly by trade, construction, agriculture, fisheries, and tourism. The place is next to Angra dos Reis one of the two main points laying the ferry to the tourist island of Ilha Grande. The main town of Vila do Abraão is around 25 km away and the ferry takes about 75 minutes driving time.

Mangaratiba in 1831 granted the town charter.
