Festivali i Këngës

The Festivali i Këngës is a music festival in Albania. It will be held on the Albanian television station TVSH since 1962. The festival enjoys widespread popularity in Albania. It always takes place annually in December.

History

The festival had quickly established itself after the first held in December 1962 as an important competition of singers in Albania. When XI. Festivali i Këngës in December 1972 was first played in Western-influenced music, and there were young women seen in miniskirts. The departure from the hitherto dominated by Socialist Realism Festival led to criticism within the leadership of the PPSh. On the 4th Plenum of the Central Committee of the PPSh, which took place from 26 June to 28 June 1973 were Lubonja Todi, Managing Director of RTVSh, and Fadil Paçrami, who was responsible for the implementation of the festival, heavily criticized and both a Undermined the socialist party discipline and corruption of the youth accused. They lost all their offices and were later imprisoned as enemies of the people for many years. As a result of interference of the highest governance under Enver Hoxha more political and folk songs were presented.

The Festivali i Këngës was further carried out after the collapse of the party system. From 1999, however, it got competition from new private television music shows. From this time the jury was under increasing criticism: She was accused of venality and that the top places were already awarded beforehand. These allegations were increasing for some time after the 2003 festival was the Albanian preliminary round of the Euro Vision Song Contest.

Vače Zela won a total of ten times in the 60s and 70s. Depending twice won Alida Hisku in the 70s and Manjola Nallbani and Elsa Lila, both in the 90s.

Finals for the Euro Vision Song Contest

Since 2003, the Festivali i Këngës the Albanian preselection for the Euro Vision Song Contest the following year. Anjeza Shahini won and made his debut in 2004 for Albania. All songs must be sung in the national festival in the Albanian language.
