Fieni

Fieni is a town in Dâmboviţa county in the historical region of Wallachia, Romania.

Geographical location

Fieni is located in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, in the southern foothills of the Leaota and the Bucegi Mountains at the headwaters of the river Ialomiţa. The district capital Targoviste is located about 25 km south.

History

The oldest archaeological finds in the territory of the present-day city date from the Bronze Age. Fieni itself was first mentioned in 1532. The place was long rural. From 1865 on, he was part of the community Moţăieni. In 1912, the leading by Fieni railway line in operation. 1914 a cement factory was opened. 1923 Fieni was an independent municipality, in 1968 the collection to the city. In 2002, the German company HeidelbergCement share the majority of the cement factory Romcif Fieni, and has since been referred to as HeidelbergCement Romania. This is now (2009 ) on one of the major employers in the city. Other important branches of industry are agriculture ( particularly orchards and livestock ) as well as tourism.

Population

1930 lived on the territory of today's approximately 2,150 people. As of the 2002 census lived in Fieni 7,701 people, including 7,681 Romanians and 12 Roma. Approximately 6,300 lived in the city proper, the others in the two incorporated villages.

Traffic

Fieni is located on the railway line from Targoviste after Pietrosita. In both directions daily drive about eight commuter and passenger trains. Some of the trains runs continuously over Târgoviste by Titu or Bucharest. Through the city along the national road (drum National) DN leads 71 of Tartasesti to Sinaia.
